General Principles:

  • Modesty: Attire should be modest, covering the majority of the body.
  • Purity: Fabrics should be clean and avoid bright colors or distracting designs.
  • Simplicity: Simplicity in design and decoration of uniforms is encouraged.
  • Compliance with Sharia: Clothing must adhere to the principles of Islamic law (Sharia).

Common Elements in Islamic School Uniforms:

  • Hijab or veil: Girls and women are typically required to wear a hijab or veil covering their hair and neck.
  • Abaya or jilbab: In some schools, an abaya (a long, loose-fitting robe) or a jilbab (a long dress) is mandatory.
  • Tunics and long pants: Boys usually wear long tunics and pants that cover their ankles.
  • Subdued colors: Uniforms are often in dark or pastel colors such as black, navy blue, dark green, or beige.
  • Prohibition of jewelry and makeup: Many schools prohibit the wearing of ostentatious jewelry and makeup.

Additional Considerations:

  • Climate: In warm climates, adaptations to uniforms may be permitted to ensure student comfort.
  • Physical activities: Specific dress codes, such as modest sportswear, may be established for physical activities.

Special occasions: Additional dress codes may be implemented for special occasions, such as religious holidays.
