First Grade Curriculum

Vision: Form students with a solid foundation in academic knowledge, Islamic values, and a strong sense of cultural identity, preparing them to be global citizens and active members of their community.

Learning Areas

Spanish

Demonstrate the ability to express and understand ideas, thoughts, and feelings through language.

Develop, through stories, the ability to listen and interpret language and the basic rules of oral exchange. Read texts aloud, using proper pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm appropriate to the content.

Develop the ability to self-correct language.

Develop creativity by producing simple and engaging written works.

Develop creative and expressive abilities to generate original messages.

Relate basic grammatical aspects for the composition of simple texts.

Interpret simple texts related to age and interests.

  1. Oral and Written Communication:
    Apply language norms and elements in verbal, non-verbal, and mixed communication to express facts, events, ideas, thoughts, and feelings in daily activities.
    Express ideas and thoughts clearly, coherently, and precisely in everyday activities to strengthen communicative interaction.
    Interpret messages from various media to interact confidently in their environment.
    Consider the use of phonetic and graphematic codes in word construction for their use in oral and written communication in their surroundings.
  2. Structure of the Language:
    Apply grammatical structures for the construction of diverse texts according to environmental needs.
    Analyze the grammatical structures present in the construction of simple texts, based on the needs of the environment.
    Appreciate the importance of using grammatical structures in text construction according to the needs of the context.

    Read different texts with interest to discover their structure and classification.
    Write different types of texts to develop creativity and appreciate their utility.

    Recognize their role as a family and school member, establishing relationships with other members based on each one’s level of responsibility.

    Recognize the importance of housing and the materials used for construction, for human security and protection against the elements.
    Value the natural resources of the community as indispensable elements for development, based on their benefits.
    Appreciate the importance of transportation and communication means for community development.
  3. Harmonious Coexistence with the Natural and Social Environment:
    Actively participate in social coexistence events, respecting the norms in activities inside and outside school.

Mathematics

Read, write, and count natural numbers up to 100, progressively and regressively.

Apply addition and subtraction (+, -) operations with natural numbers < 100 to solve environmental problems.

Represent straight and curved lines, geometric shapes, and parts of a region in objects and figures from their surroundings.

Describe and represent simple statistical charts with information from the environment.

Recognize the relationship between time and length in daily activities.

Handle the Panamanian monetary unit (the Balboa) and its divisions.

Areas and Objectives

  1. Arithmetic:
    Write, read, and decompose numbers up to 100, valuing their utility and applying them correctly in real-life situations to represent quantities and solve problems.
    Use ordinal numbers to describe and order objects and situations in the environment in search of solutions to daily problems.
    Manage basic operations with natural numbers to correctly solve problems in their environment.
  2. Measurement Systems:
    Identify and compare lengths, weights, and capacities, appreciating their use to resolve fairly problematic situations in their environment.
    Recognize and safely use the legal currency in Panama, combining coins and bills to solve everyday life problems.
    Value the necessary time units as fundamental in fulfilling and responsibly handling daily activities.
  3. Geometry:
    Identify geometric solids, such as rectangular solid, cylinder, and sphere, in objects and figures from their surroundings; appreciating their versatility and applicability in human creations.
    Identify and creatively use geometric shapes: triangle, square, rectangle, and circle in drawing various kinds of objects, recognizing them in surrounding items.
  4. Statistics and Probability:
    Interpret statistical information from simple events that allow them to evaluate their reality.
    Use mathematical elements and reasoning to face situations requiring them in daily life.
    Clearly and accurately express and interpret information, data, and arguments from other fields of knowledge and daily life.

Natural Sciences

Recognize that environmental conditions at home, in the community, and school contribute to the maintenance and reproduction of diverse species, which can be beneficial or harmful to human health and life.

Understand the importance of hygiene habits and nutrition in preserving personal and family health to maintain a healthy body and environment.

Appreciate natural phenomena and their relationship to environmental characteristics and human activities to take precautionary measures for such phenomena.

Explore the environment at home, school, and the community to identify various species and other natural components that form part of our surroundings.

Recognize that the Earth is part of the Universe, where we observe the Sun, Moon, and other celestial bodies, valuing the characteristics of our planet as a place we must maintain to continue life.

  1. Living Beings and Their Functions:
    Describe the function of food in keeping the body nourished to ensure good health.
    Value the roles of living beings in their natural habitat to protect and conserve species.
    Distinguish the harm caused by insects and pests to humans, aiming to prevent diseases.
  2. Living Beings and Their Environment:
    Distinguish and explain environmental characteristics and diversity to protect the life of living beings that form part of the environment.
    Describe and discuss climate changes, highlighting their importance for humans and the environment.
  3. Matter, Energy, and Interactions in Natural Changes:
    Recognize the relationships between matter, energy, and changes in nature to use them in daily situations.
    Relate changes occurring in matter due to heat energy, applying them to the context.
  4. Planet Earth and the Universe:
    Appreciate the importance of planet Earth as part of the universe, to preserve human and other living species' lives, promoting the continuity of species.
    Identify celestial bodies observed from Earth (Moon, Sun, and stars) to value their influence on our environment.

Physical Education

To stimulate the functioning and integral development of the body through the practice of physical and recreational activities.

To rescue cultural values through the practice of recreational activities.

To promote the cultivation of body aesthetics, hygiene, and health (physical, mental, and social) through physical activities.

Areas and Objectives

  1. Recreation and Outdoor Life:

Engages in recreational games and outdoor activities following safety rules to harmoniously interact with peers.

Produces various sounds and performs different movements in imitation activities aimed at developing creativity and body expression.

Expresses the usefulness of traditional, varied, and pre-sport games in daily life.

  1. Physiology and Hygiene of Physical Activity:

Identifies through practical demonstrations, hygiene and nutrition habits to maintain good health.

Practices and promotes sports, recreational, physical, and cultural activities as protective factors that foster drug-free environments within the family, school, and community.

Promotes health-related preventive norms in the educational community, including sexual, physical, and mental health, encouraging responsible decision-making.

Explains the vulnerability factors related to risks and disaster threats that may occur in the community.

  1. Body and Movement Education:

Performs motor coordination movements according to the rhythm or counting time to improve coordination.

Practices fine and gross motor coordination exercises to enhance them according to physical preparation exercises.

Explains the usefulness of various exercises in daily life.

  1. Sports Education:

Demonstrates proficiency in various aquatic activities, appropriate to their development, while respecting aquatic safety norms.

Practices track events to achieve appropriate physical condition by increasing speed development.
