Technology Through the Eyes of Our Children

In a recent school activity, students gave a talk to explain—through their own lens—what software is. What might seem like a complex topic became surprisingly clear, natural, and even fun thanks to their words.

One student described software as “what makes electronic things work, like apps or video games,” while another said, “software is like an invisible brain that tells the computer what to do.” Some compared it to cooking recipes, secret instructions, or even magic. Each definition reflected not just understanding, but also creativity and curiosity.

Beyond their answers, what stood out most was how children think about technology—not as something distant, but as part of their everyday lives. They mentioned examples like YouTube, video games, calculators, and even smartwatches. To them, software isn’t just code; it’s a tool, a game, and a bridge to the world.

Hearing them speak reminded us that learning about technology doesn’t have to be difficult—especially when it’s approached through experience, play, and exploration. Their words invite us to join them in this process with more questions than answers, with less fear and more wonder.
